Floquet system

a periodically driven system whose effective behavior changes under repeated stimulation.

A Floquet system is a periodically driven system whose effective behavior changes under repeated stimulation, such as pulses of light, electric fields, or other timed signals. Instead of having one fixed state, the system can act as though it has different properties while the driving force is active.

In cybersecurity, this matters because hardware that changes behavior with timing or illumination is harder to model, test, and trust than static circuitry. Defenders need to know not only what a device is made of, but also when it becomes active, what conditions trigger it, and whether its state can be altered remotely. In practice, periodic driving can be used to create reconfigurable sensors, temporary communication paths, or specialized computing modes. The same idea can also complicate attacks and defenses by hiding functionality in transient states that appear only under specific conditions, making inspection, reproducibility, and lifecycle control more difficult.
