Fixed installment

A regular payment amount that stays the same each month.

A fixed installment is a recurring payment set at the same amount each billing cycle, usually monthly. Instead of charging customers only for variable usage, a provider spreads the cost into equal, predictable payments. In practice, this is common in subscriptions, utility plans, financing, and installment billing systems.

In cyber security, fixed installments matter because attackers often target recurring payment flows. Account takeovers can be used to change payment details, create unauthorized subscriptions, or keep fraudulent charges active for longer periods. Phishing pages may also imitate billing portals that ask users to “confirm” a fixed monthly payment, while malware or malicious browser extensions can tamper with payment settings. Defenders watch for unexpected changes to recurring billing, duplicate subscriptions, failed payment spikes, and mismatches between customer consent and the charged amount. Clear reconciliation and strong authentication help stop billing abuse before it becomes a sustained loss.
