Firebase

Google’s backend platform for app data, authentication, and hosting.

Firebase is Google’s backend platform for building apps. It provides common cloud services such as authentication, databases, file storage, analytics, and hosting, so developers can ship mobile and web apps without managing every server themselves.

In security terms, Firebase matters because it often becomes the trust boundary for an application. Access is usually enforced by Firebase Security Rules and authentication settings, which decide who can read or write data. If those rules are too broad, misconfigured, or not tested properly, attackers may query other users’ records, expose private metadata, or abuse shared APIs. Defenders reduce risk by using least-privilege rules, tenant isolation, strong auth checks, and emulator-based testing before deployment.
