A file-drop countdown is a timed claim that links, files, or passwords will become available after a stated delay. Extortion groups may use it to suggest that stolen data will soon be released, creating urgency and uncertainty for the named organization and its customers.
The countdown is a pressure tactic, not proof that a breach occurred or that the promised files are genuine. In real attacks, a group might post a victim claim and announce a scheduled file release; defenders should preserve the post, monitor for the promised material, and verify any samples through appropriate incident-response processes. Treat the claim as an allegation until the data and circumstances are independently confirmed.
