Fiber to the home (FTTH) is a broadband architecture that delivers internet service over optical fiber directly to a residence. An optical network terminal or similar customer premises device converts the fiber signal into local network traffic for the home.
In cyber security, FTTH matters because the access link is part of the security boundary, not just a passive cable. The fiber path may be hard to tap, but the surrounding equipment, installation points, and provider management systems still create attack surface. Weak physical security, misconfiguration, and vulnerable customer premises equipment can enable interception, service disruption, or unauthorized access. Defenders treat FTTH like other critical infrastructure: lock down hardware, control administrative interfaces, monitor changes, and protect the handoff between the provider and the residence.
