Exploit-style probing is repeated test traffic sent to a web application to find weaknesses. It often looks like normal browsing at first, but the requests are shaped to trigger errors, expose hidden endpoints, or reveal insecure behavior in forms, APIs, authentication flows, and access controls.
In cyber security, this matters because probing is often the reconnaissance stage before a real exploit attempt. Attackers use it to identify outdated software, misconfigured permissions, exposed admin pages, or injection points. Defenders watch for unusual request patterns, repeated parameter changes, failed logins, and payloads that resemble fuzzing or web scanning. Web application firewalls, rate limits, bot detection, and detailed logging help spot and slow this activity before it becomes a breach.
