Exit drill

A planned migration test used to check whether services, controls, and dependencies still work after leaving a platform.

An exit drill is a planned test of moving a service away from its current platform or provider. It checks whether the service can be rebuilt and operated elsewhere, rather than simply confirming that data or configuration files can be exported.

Exit drills matter because services depend on more than data: prompts, AI memory, identity settings, integrations, access controls, and other operational dependencies may not transfer cleanly. In a controlled migration test, teams validate that critical workflows still function, safeguards remain effective, and sensitive information is handled correctly in the destination environment. Regular drills reveal gaps before a real provider change or outage makes them urgent.
