An executable upload path is a directory where files submitted by users are stored in a location the web server can serve and, in some cases, execute as code. This becomes dangerous when an attacker can upload a script file, such as PHP or another server-side language, and the application does not isolate it from execution.
In cyber security, this is a high-risk trust boundary. A file upload feature should treat uploads as data only, but a misconfigured server or plugin may place them in a web-accessible folder with script execution enabled. Attackers look for that mistake to turn a routine upload into remote code execution. Defenses include storing uploads outside the web root, disabling execution in upload directories, and using strict allowlists for file types and content checks.
