Evidence-driven decision-making

A security approach that prioritizes verified technical and operational signals before action is taken.

Evidence-driven decision-making is a security approach that favors verified technical and operational signals before a team acts. Instead of responding to a single alert, defenders compare logs, telemetry, asset baselines, user activity, process behavior, and operational context to confirm whether an event is routine, risky, or malicious.

This matters because cyber defense often happens under uncertainty. In IT and especially in operational technology, a rushed containment step can cause downtime or safety issues, while waiting too long can allow an attacker to move deeper into the environment. In real attacks, this method helps teams distinguish false positives from true compromise, validate suspicious remote access or configuration changes, and choose the least disruptive response. In defense, it supports better escalation, stronger incident triage, and more defensible decisions when the picture is incomplete.
