EO/IR

Electro-optical and infrared sensing used to visually or thermally detect objects in complex environments.

EO/IR means electro-optical and infrared sensing. EO cameras capture visible-light imagery, while infrared sensors detect heat signatures. Used together, they help operators spot, track, and classify objects in poor light, haze, smoke, or cluttered terrain.

In cyber security and counter-drone defense, EO/IR is part of layered detection. It often confirms alerts from radar, RF analysis, or acoustics by showing whether a small airborne object is a bird, drone, or other asset. Because these systems can be networked into command platforms, defenders must also protect their feeds, access controls, and recorded data from tampering or unauthorized viewing. Attackers may use EO/IR for reconnaissance, while defenders use it to improve identification and response without relying on radio emissions alone.
