Endpoint Analysis

A posture-checking process that evaluates device security before access is granted.

Endpoint Analysis is a posture-checking process that evaluates a device before it is allowed to connect to protected resources. Security software or an access client may inspect signals such as the operating system version, patch level, disk encryption, antivirus status, firewall settings, running processes, browser state, and registry values. The goal is to decide whether the endpoint looks healthy enough to trust.

It matters because access control is only as strong as the device checks behind it. In remote-access, VPN, and zero-trust environments, endpoint analysis helps block unmanaged or compromised machines before they reach internal systems. Attackers may try to disable, spoof, or exploit the analysis client itself, turning a trust mechanism into an attack surface. Defenders use it to enforce policy, but they should also treat the checking agent as sensitive software: it needs hardening, timely updates, and monitoring for privilege-escalation or tampering attempts.
