Electrolyte

A medium that carries ions and helps an electrochemical reaction proceed.

An electrolyte is a medium that contains mobile ions and lets electric current support an electrochemical reaction. It can be a liquid, gel, or solid, and it is essential in systems such as batteries, fuel cells, corrosion processes, and electroplating. Without an electrolyte, the charged particles needed for the reaction cannot move between electrodes, so the process stalls.

In cyber security, electrolytes matter because many connected devices depend on electrochemical power sources and sensors. Battery-backed cameras, access control units, industrial controllers, and IoT devices can fail if the electrolyte degrades, leaks, or dries out, causing shutdowns, data loss, or false sensor readings. Defenders watch battery health, temperature, and physical tamper signs to reduce that risk. Attackers with physical access may try to exploit such weaknesses by overheating equipment, damaging batteries, or forcing unreliable power conditions rather than breaking software directly.
