Educational poverty is a condition in which learners lack the resources, connectivity, devices, guidance, and digital skills needed to learn effectively. In cybersecurity, it matters because weak access and weak support often lead to weaker security habits: students may reuse passwords, miss multi-factor authentication prompts, trust AI-generated answers, or struggle to spot phishing pages, scams, and misleading content.
Attackers can exploit this gap through social engineering, credential theft, and fake login flows that depend on low digital confidence. Defenders reduce the risk by combining access with practical training: basic security literacy, supervised AI use, clear reporting channels, and classroom rules that teach verification habits. Educational poverty is therefore not only an education issue; it also shapes how safely people recognize threats and respond online.
