Editorial control

A human review process with final responsibility for publication decisions and content handling.

Editorial control is a human review process in which a person or team has final responsibility for what gets published, edited, or withheld. In security-sensitive environments, that means the last decision is not made by an automated system alone. The reviewer can verify sources, check for manipulation, confirm required disclosures, and reject material that is misleading or unsafe.

This matters in cyber security because attackers often try to exploit publishing pipelines rather than break encryption. They may submit fake text, synthetic media, or impersonation content and hope it is republished without scrutiny. Strong editorial control helps stop that by adding accountability, preserving provenance, and ensuring labels or warnings are not lost during editing or reposting. In AI compliance, human editorial control can also change how generated content is treated, especially when laws distinguish between raw machine output and content that has been meaningfully reviewed before publication.
