Drug Master File

technical dossier that supports the quality and manufacturing profile of a medicine.

A Drug Master File (DMF) is a technical dossier that describes how a medicine or its ingredients are made, tested, packaged, and controlled. It can include manufacturing methods, quality data, raw material details, and process validations. In pharmaceutical security, DMFs matter because they contain high-value intellectual property and regulated evidence that supports product approval and supply-chain trust.

Attackers target DMFs because stealing or leaking them can create leverage in extortion, expose trade secrets, and disrupt regulatory work. A DMF may also be used to pressure partners, suppliers, or customers if it references shared processes or proprietary chemistry. Defenders treat DMFs as sensitive records: they restrict access, separate document repositories, log downloads, encrypt storage, and prepare incident response plans for regulatory material. In a breach or leak claim, seeing a DMF listed often signals that the attacker may have found documents with both compliance and commercial value.
