Disclosure pipeline

A process that transfers exploit findings to vendors so they can investigate and fix the weakness.

A disclosure pipeline is the workflow that moves a newly discovered vulnerability from a researcher to the vendor that can fix it. In a well-run pipeline, the finder reports technical details, the vendor confirms the bug, and both sides coordinate on remediation before public release. The goal is to reduce the time attackers have to exploit an unknown weakness while still preserving enough information for defenders to understand the risk.

This matters in cyber security because many serious flaws are first found by independent researchers, not by the software maker. Events like Pwn2Own use a disclosure pipeline to turn working exploits into vendor action: researchers prove the bug, organizers route the findings, and vendors can build patches or mitigations. In real attacks, criminals benefit when no pipeline exists or when disclosure is delayed. In defense, a strong pipeline supports responsible reporting, patch development, and safer public communication.
