Digital Injection

The insertion of altered or synthetic media into a verification workflow rather than through a normal live capture.

Digital injection is the insertion of altered or synthetic media directly into a digital identity-verification workflow, instead of presenting it to a camera during a normal live capture. For example, a verification process might receive a manipulated video feed or image file as if it were captured from the applicant in real time.

In cyber security, injection can undermine checks that rely on document images, facial comparison, or liveness detection. Attackers may seek to exploit weak capture paths or device controls to make synthetic media appear genuine. Defenders can reduce risk by combining document validation and biometric checks with capture-session integrity controls, device and behavior anomaly monitoring, and manual review when results are uncertain. No single check should be treated as conclusive proof of identity.
