diffpatch is a Gitea feature that applies patch data to repository content. In normal use, it helps users and automation update files by sending differences instead of full replacements, which makes review and collaboration faster. Because the feature processes repository-controlled input, it sits close to a sensitive boundary: data handling on one side, executable server behavior on the other.
In cyber security, that boundary matters because malformed or specially crafted patch content can be used to influence how the server writes files, resolves paths, or prepares follow-on Git operations. If the resulting files reach locations that Git or the operating system treats as executable, the feature can become part of a code injection or remote code execution path. Defenders reduce risk by keeping Gitea updated, limiting who can submit patch content, and hardening the service account so repository data cannot influence hooks, scripts, or other privileged execution points.
