Device compatibility is whether a phone can actually use a mobile service plan. For eSIMs, that means the handset must support embedded SIM profiles, the right cellular bands, and any carrier or regional requirements such as firmware support, device unlocking, or whitelist rules. A plan can look valid on paper and still fail if the phone cannot register on the target network.
In cyber security, compatibility matters because it affects both availability and trust. Attackers can exploit confusion by selling plans that will not work on a victim’s device, or by pushing users to install profiles before checking support. Defenders and users reduce risk by verifying model support, band coverage, carrier policy, and activation prerequisites before scanning a QR code or installing a profile. In practice, compatibility checks prevent service loss, billing disputes, and unnecessary exposure to fake or misrepresented mobile offers.
