Database scripts are code files used to create, modify, query, or automate database behavior. They may include SQL statements, stored procedures, migration scripts, and admin routines. In normal operations, they help developers and operators build tables, move data, back up records, and manage permissions.
In cyber security, database scripts matter because they can reveal how internal data systems are structured. An exposed script may expose table names, account roles, connection details, business logic, or weak access controls, giving an attacker a map of valuable data and how it is protected. Attackers may steal scripts during intrusion to speed up later queries, data theft, or ransomware extortion. Defenders treat these files as sensitive assets, limit access, scan repositories and backups for leakage, and review them for hardcoded secrets or unsafe commands.
