Data warehouse export

A dataset exported from a data warehouse environment.

A data warehouse export is a copy of selected data extracted from a data warehouse, often saved as files or transferred to another system for analysis, reporting, or migration. It may include business records combined from multiple applications, so an export can concentrate information that was originally spread across different services.

In cybersecurity, exported datasets are sensitive because they can be easier to copy or move than the live warehouse and may contain personal, financial, or operational data. Attackers with access to a warehouse or a privileged account may attempt to create or retrieve exports for exfiltration. Defenders can monitor export jobs, unusual download volumes, destination locations, and the accounts that initiate them; restrict export permissions; and protect exported files with encryption and retention controls. A claim that an export was stolen is not proof of a breach: logs and other evidence are needed to verify whether an export occurred and what it contained.
