Customer-facing process

Any workflow a client or partner uses to access support, services, or account functions.

A customer-facing process is any workflow a client or partner uses to reach support, request services, manage accounts, or complete security-related tasks such as onboarding, authentication, ticketing, and incident reporting. In cybersecurity, these processes are part of the real attack surface because they sit between a provider and the people who depend on it.

They matter because attackers often target weak points in service workflows rather than core defenses. A phishing email that imitates a support portal, a fake password reset page, or a compromised partner onboarding flow can be enough to steal access or redirect help requests. Defenders reduce risk by keeping portals clear, verifying identities, limiting permissions, and documenting who owns each step. When a security company changes branding or service structure, customer-facing processes must stay aligned so clients still know where to go, who to contact, and how to verify that the path is legitimate.
