Cross-platform abuse

Harmful activity that uses several services to avoid easy detection on any single one.

Cross-platform abuse is harmful activity that is spread across several services so no single platform sees the full picture. An attacker may use one app to make contact, another to move the victim into a private chat, and a third to share files, links, or instructions. Each step can look normal in isolation, but together they form a coordinated abuse chain.

This matters because modern cyber defense often depends on context. When abuse is split across social media, messaging apps, games, and other services, moderation tools, trust-and-safety teams, and investigators may only see fragments. Defenders look for related signals such as repeated contact attempts, account hopping, matching usernames, linked devices, or rapid movement into private channels. Cross-platform abuse is common in fraud, harassment, grooming, and phishing campaigns because it reduces visibility and makes reporting harder. Stopping it usually requires shared intelligence, faster escalation, and correlation across services.
