Copilot Chat

The chat-oriented interface for interacting with Copilot.

Copilot Chat is the chat-oriented interface for interacting with Microsoft Copilot. Instead of clicking through menus, users type questions or requests in natural language and receive generated responses, summaries, or suggested actions. In modern office software, this interface often sits on top of account permissions, cloud services, and the local application, so whether it appears or works correctly can depend on more than just the button being visible.

In cyber security, Copilot Chat matters because it can expose or process sensitive business data, and it can be influenced by prompts that try to steer the assistant into unsafe behavior. Attackers may abuse similar chat interfaces for social engineering, prompt injection, or data discovery, while defenders monitor access controls, telemetry, and configuration to make sure the assistant only responds with approved information. A missing or changed Copilot Chat control can also complicate support and rollout checks, because it may signal a UI problem, an entitlement issue, or a service-side restriction.
