Container Storage Modules, or CSM, are Dell software components that connect enterprise storage arrays to Kubernetes environments. They sit between the container platform and backend storage, helping workloads request, provision, and manage persistent volumes through a trusted integration layer.
CSM matters because this “plumbing” can carry high-value permissions. If a flaw exists in the control path, an attacker may be able to alter storage access, disrupt stateful applications, or reach data that depends on persistent storage. Defenders treat CSM as part of the critical attack surface: keep versions current, match components carefully, and monitor it with the same urgency as identity, networking, and secrets-management systems.
