Connected Environments

Networks where operational systems are linked to IT, cloud, or remote-access tools.

Connected environments are operational networks linked to enterprise IT, cloud services, or remote-access tools. In industrial and critical infrastructure settings, that means control systems, sensors, and engineering workstations are no longer isolated from business systems or outside support channels.

This connection improves monitoring and maintenance, but it also expands attack paths. An exposed remote-access service, a weak third-party connection, or poor IT-OT segmentation can let an attacker reach systems that affect physical processes. Defenders focus on asset visibility, strict access control, network segmentation, and continuous monitoring so they can spot risky changes before they disrupt uptime, safety, or production.
