Confidential information is any sensitive data that should not be exposed to unauthorized people, including source code, API tokens, private notes, deployment secrets, and internal configuration. In development platforms, this data often lives alongside code, build logs, and automation settings, which makes a single access-control failure or information-disclosure bug especially dangerous.
In real attacks, confidential information is valuable because it can reveal how a system works and how to log in to it. Stolen tokens and credentials may allow an attacker to move from a read-only flaw to broader compromise, while leaked source code or config files can expose hidden endpoints, environment variables, or weak security assumptions. Defenders reduce this risk by limiting access, separating secrets from general project data, reviewing logs and job traces for accidental disclosure, and rotating credentials if exposure is suspected.
