Compromise validation is the process of checking available evidence before concluding that an organization or system has been breached. It may involve reviewing authentication and access logs, looking for unusual account activity, and checking systems, files, or services for unauthorized changes.
Validation matters because a public claim or victim listing is not, by itself, proof of intrusion, data theft, or disruption. In real incident response, defenders use logs and system evidence to confirm whether access occurred, identify affected assets, and determine the scope of an event. This helps teams respond proportionately and avoid presenting unverified claims as established facts.
