A compliance policy is a set of rules a management system uses to decide whether a device can access company services. In mobile device management (MDM), those rules often check encryption, operating system version, screen lock settings, jailbreak or root status, required apps, and other device posture signals.
These policies matter because they turn security requirements into access control. If a device falls out of compliance, the platform can block email, VPN, or SaaS access, or require remediation before reconnecting. Attackers may try to bypass these checks by tampering with settings, spoofing status, or using unmanaged devices. Defenders use compliance policies to reduce the chance that stolen credentials or compromised endpoints can reach internal resources.
