Comment moderation

A control that determines whether comments appear immediately or wait for review.

Comment moderation is a control that holds user comments for review before they are published. Instead of showing every submission immediately, the site queues, filters, or approves them first. In practice, moderation reduces spam, abuse, and unsafe content, and it gives defenders a chance to block obvious malicious payloads before they become public.

In cyber security, moderation matters because public input is a common attack path. A hostile comment may contain links, phishing text, or hidden script markup intended for stored cross-site scripting. Moderation helps by limiting what reaches other users, but it is not a substitute for sanitization or safe rendering. If an administrator views queued comments in a browser, any untrusted content must still be escaped and treated as data, not code. Strong moderation settings, combined with input validation and output encoding, reduce the chance that a comment box becomes a trust boundary failure.
