Combustion

The process of burning fuel to produce heat.

Combustion is the chemical process of burning fuel to produce heat, usually by combining fuel with oxygen in a controlled way. In heating systems, the goal is not just to make warmth, but to keep that burn stable enough to avoid dangerous temperature swings, smoke buildup, or fuel waste. Because combustion depends on timing, airflow, and fuel supply, even small control errors can change how safely a system behaves.

In cyber security, combustion matters whenever software or electronics monitor or influence burners, stoves, furnaces, or other heat-producing devices. An attacker who tampers with sensors, alters setpoints, or disrupts control logic could cause inefficient burning, shutdowns, or unsafe operating conditions. Defenses focus on conservative defaults, clear alarms, manual override, and fail-safe behavior so a person can take control if automation becomes unreliable.
