Cloud posture is the current security condition of a cloud environment, including identities, permissions, network exposure, workload settings, storage access, and service configurations. It shows whether a cloud account is hardened or left with risky defaults, excessive privilege, or exposed services.
In cyber security, cloud posture matters because many incidents start with misconfiguration rather than malware. Attackers look for public buckets, overbroad IAM roles, weak secrets management, or drift from approved baselines. Defenders use cloud posture tools to continuously inspect configurations, flag risky changes, and prioritize remediation before exposure turns into compromise. Strong posture management also supports compliance by turning technical findings into actionable evidence, but it is not the same as audit readiness. Good cloud security depends on both accurate posture visibility and fast response to the issues it reveals.
