Cloud data warehouse

A hosted analytics platform used to store and query large datasets, such as Snowflake or BigQuery-class systems.

A cloud data warehouse is a hosted analytics platform built to store, organize, and query large volumes of data. Examples include Snowflake- and BigQuery-class systems. Unlike a local database server, the service is managed in the cloud, so teams access it over APIs, SQL clients, and web consoles while the provider handles much of the infrastructure.

In cyber security, these platforms matter because they often contain highly sensitive business, customer, and operational data. Attackers may target them through stolen credentials, overly broad permissions, insecure sharing links, or abused service accounts. Defenders focus on strong identity controls, query monitoring, data classification, and least-privilege access. Cloud data warehouses also change how security tools are deployed: many organizations use agentless access layers, audit logging, and policy enforcement to govern who can read which datasets without slowing analytics.
