Clinical benchmark

a test used to measure whether a medical AI system performs safely and accurately.

A clinical benchmark is a standardized test set or task suite used to measure whether a medical AI system performs safely and accurately on real healthcare work. It may check diagnosis support, triage, report generation, or image interpretation against vetted clinical references and expected outcomes.

In cyber security, clinical benchmarks matter because they help detect when a model has been altered, poisoned, misconfigured, or degraded after deployment. If an attacker changes training data, inserts malicious prompts, or weakens a model update, benchmark results can reveal unusual drops in accuracy, unsafe advice, or inconsistent behavior. Defenders use them in pre-release validation, regression testing, and post-deployment monitoring to prove the system still meets safety thresholds. A weak benchmark can hide risk; a strong one creates measurable accountability.
