Cisco ISE

Cisco Identity Services Engine, a platform for centralized network access control and policy enforcement.

Cisco Identity Services Engine (ISE) is a centralized network access control platform. It evaluates who or what is trying to connect, then applies policy for authentication, authorization, and device posture before allowing access. In enterprise networks, ISE often acts as a trust anchor for wired, wireless, VPN, and administrative access decisions.

That makes Cisco ISE a high-value target. If an attacker can bypass authentication or abuse a privileged API, they may reach restricted management functions, alter access policy, or gain a foothold on a system that controls the broader network. Defenders treat ISE as control-plane infrastructure: keep it patched, limit management exposure with ACLs and segmentation, and monitor access and system logs for suspicious requests or changes. A compromise here can weaken the integrity of the entire access-control chain.
