Circuit architecture

The overall structure and organization of an electronic design.

Circuit architecture is the overall structure and organization of an electronic design. It describes how components are arranged, how signals move through the system, and which functions are grouped together. In a transceiver, for example, architecture determines where transmission, reception, filtering, and control logic sit in the signal path. A good architecture makes a design easier to build, test, and understand; a poor one can hide failures and create unnecessary complexity.

In cyber security, circuit architecture matters because it shapes the attack surface and the available defenses. Clear separation between power, control, and data paths can limit what an attacker can reach if a device is tampered with or compromised. Secure hardware designs use architecture to support isolation, reduce exposed interfaces, and make monitoring or fail-safe behavior possible. Attackers often look for weak boundaries, shared resources, or overly trusting connections, while defenders use thoughtful architecture to improve resilience, reduce side-channel risk, and keep essential functions protected.
