CC-Link IE TSN

An industrial Ethernet network designed for real-time control and scheduled traffic.

CC-Link IE TSN is an industrial Ethernet network used for factory automation, where controllers, I/O modules, and drives exchange data with tight timing requirements. TSN, or Time-Sensitive Networking, adds scheduling and synchronization so critical control traffic can arrive predictably instead of competing with ordinary network load.

In cyber security, that timing sensitivity matters as much as confidentiality or integrity. A malformed packet, flood, or validation flaw on the network path can cause delays, timeouts, or denial of service that interrupt production even if no data is stolen. Defenders treat CC-Link IE TSN as an OT protocol surface: segment it from untrusted networks, restrict remote access, monitor for abnormal traffic patterns, and keep device firmware updated. Real attacks often target availability by abusing protocol handling, while defenses focus on preserving deterministic communication and limiting who can reach the control segment.
