CAPSS

Cyber Assurance of Physical Security Systems, a certification scheme for cyber mitigations in network-connected security products.

CAPSS stands for Cyber Assurance of Physical Security Systems. It is a certification scheme for network-connected physical security products, such as surveillance platforms, access-control systems, and related management software. The goal is not to prove a product is perfect, but to show that it has been reviewed against cyber controls that reduce risk in real deployments.

CAPSS matters because modern security hardware is also software and network infrastructure. If a camera platform is exposed to weak passwords, poor patching, insecure remote access, or flat network design, attackers may use it as an entry point for unauthorized access, denial of service, or lateral movement. In defense, CAPSS supports procurement and assurance by giving buyers a way to ask whether a product was assessed for cyber resilience and whether it is being operated with segmentation, least privilege, and tight administration. The certification helps, but secure configuration still determines the outcome.
