Caller-context signals

Extra information shown about an incoming call to help users judge whether it may be suspicious.

Caller-context signals are extra details shown about an incoming call so a user can judge whether it is trustworthy. These cues may include the caller’s name, number reputation, recent interaction history, account relationships, or other metadata that helps separate a familiar contact from an unknown or potentially spoofed caller.

In cyber security, caller-context signals matter because many scams depend on urgency and impersonation. Attackers often use fake support calls, number spoofing, or social engineering to pressure victims into revealing codes, approving logins, or changing account settings. Context cues do not prove identity, but they add friction and help users pause before responding. Defenders use them to reduce fraud, especially when combined with stronger authentication, spam detection, and account recovery safeguards. Their value is practical: they make suspicious calls easier to question and legitimate calls easier to trust.
