Business messaging

The use of chat platforms for sales, support, and other company-customer workflows.

Business messaging is the use of chat platforms for sales, support, lead handling, and other company-customer workflows. Instead of treating chat as a casual inbox, organizations connect it to CRM systems, ticketing tools, payment flows, and AI agents. That makes the channel operationally important: a message can trigger account changes, support actions, or access to customer data.

In cyber security, business messaging matters because attackers target the trust built into these conversations. Common abuses include impersonating a brand, hijacking a business account, sending phishing links through a trusted chat thread, or tricking support staff into revealing sensitive information. Defenses focus on verified identities, strong authentication, role-based access, message logging, content filtering, and clear human-handoff rules. Security teams also need data-minimization and approval controls so automated agents cannot expose more information than intended.
