Bulk access logging

Recording large-scale queries or exports so unusual data activity can be investigated later.

Bulk access logging is the practice of recording large-scale queries, downloads, or exports against a system so unusual data use can be reviewed later. Instead of only tracking that a record was opened, it captures volume, timing, source account, source IP, and destination activity when access happens at scale.

This matters because mass access is often where abuse shows up first. In a breach, an attacker may query thousands of identities, scrape records in batches, or export data through a compromised account to avoid obvious alarms. Bulk logging gives defenders a trail to detect those patterns, distinguish normal reporting from suspicious extraction, and support incident response. In identity systems, civil registries, and cloud data stores, these logs are also useful for proving what was accessed, when it happened, and whether the activity exceeded expected use.
