Browser DLP, or browser-based data loss prevention, is a set of controls that helps stop sensitive data from leaving through a web browser. It can inspect copy, paste, upload, download, form submissions, screenshots, and interactions with web apps or AI tools, then block, warn, or log risky actions.
It matters because many business workflows now happen in the browser, where users can move data faster than perimeter tools can see. Browser DLP helps enforce policy at the point of use, especially when employees access SaaS, cloud storage, or generative AI services. In attacks, it can limit exfiltration by blocking sensitive text from being pasted into untrusted sites or uploaded to personal accounts. In defense, it supports zero-trust and insider-risk programs by applying rules based on user, device, and content sensitivity.
