Behavioral tracking

logs that record how users interact with emails, alerts, or listings.

Behavioral tracking is the collection of logs that show how people interact with emails, security alerts, listings, or other messages. Common signals include opens, clicks, dwell time, replies, downloads, and whether a link was followed from a specific device or account. In cyber security, these records help teams understand who saw a message, what they did next, and whether the behavior matches normal use.

Attackers also use behavioral tracking. Phishing kits, tracking pixels, and unique URLs can reveal which targets opened an email or visited a fake page, helping criminals focus on active victims and refine later messages. Defenders use the same idea for detection and response: unusual click patterns, repeated visits to a malicious listing, or interaction with a suspicious alert can trigger investigation, account review, or user training. Used carefully, behavioral tracking improves visibility without relying only on content scanning.
