B-roll

supplementary footage used to support narration and visual flow.

B-roll is supplementary footage used to support narration and improve visual flow. In video production, it fills gaps between talking-head shots, illustrates a point, and helps explain a topic without requiring the viewer to stare at a single static frame. In cyber security content, B-roll often shows command lines, laptops, server racks, dashboards, office scenes, or network diagrams while a narrator explains an incident or defense.

It matters because visual support can make complex security material easier to follow, but it can also create false confidence if polished imagery is mistaken for proof. In attacks, criminals may use stock-style B-roll or staged visuals to make phishing videos, fake advisories, or social-engineering content look legitimate. In defenses, analysts and trainers use B-roll to clarify incident-response steps, explain controls, and keep viewers oriented while preserving the underlying facts. Good cyber communication uses B-roll as context, not evidence.
