Automations

Predefined actions or workflows that can run with limited human intervention.

Automations are predefined actions or workflows that execute with limited human intervention. In software systems, they can chain tasks such as sending messages, creating tickets, moving data, or triggering API calls when a condition is met. In AI environments, automations may turn a model’s output into a real-world action, which makes them more powerful than simple chat responses.

In cyber security, automations matter because they can speed up both defense and abuse. Defenders use them for alert triage, account lockout, log enrichment, and incident response steps. Attackers can abuse the same idea to scale phishing, data theft, or lateral movement by using scripted workflows and compromised credentials. The main security concern is control: automation should have narrow permissions, clear approval points, and strong logging so that mistakes, stale data, or malicious prompts do not trigger harmful actions at machine speed.
