Automated vulnerability testing is the repeated or scripted probing of systems, applications, and exposed services to find weaknesses at high speed. Instead of one person manually checking each target, tools can scan many hosts, test common misconfigurations, and try known weakness patterns in parallel.
In cyber security, this matters because speed changes scale. Attackers use automation to quickly identify open ports, vulnerable software, weak authentication, or exposed admin interfaces before defenders can react. In AI-assisted campaigns, automated testing can be chained with phishing, credential theft, and rapid infrastructure setup to move from reconnaissance to access very quickly. Defenders use the same idea for good purposes: vulnerability scanners, continuous security testing, and controlled attack simulations help teams find and fix problems before real intruders do. The key difference is intent and authorization, but the technique is the same: high-volume probing that turns small gaps into actionable findings.
