App Store delisting

Removal of an app from a marketplace, which can block discovery, downloads, and reinstalls.

App Store delisting is the removal of an app from a marketplace listing, which can stop new users from finding it, block fresh downloads, and prevent reinstalls on deleted or reset devices. The app may still run on devices that already have it, but the normal recovery path is gone.

In cyber security, delisting matters because marketplace access is a distribution control point. Defenders use it to cut off malicious, fraudulent, or policy-violating apps, while attackers may try to keep a harmful app listed long enough to spread. For legitimate services, a delisting can create an availability problem even when no code has changed, so organizations should plan alternate installation methods, device management options, and user guidance for recovery.
