Analog TV signals

The older broadcast format that was widely switched off in favor of digital transmission.

Analog TV signals are the older broadcast television format, where picture and sound were sent as continuous radio-wave variations rather than as digital data. Many regions switched them off in favor of digital transmission, but the term still matters because legacy broadcast equipment, tuners, and monitoring tools may depend on older assumptions about signal behavior.

In cyber security, analog broadcast systems are part of critical infrastructure management. Older receivers can be harder to update, easier to misconfigure, and more likely to fail during a standards transition. Defenders care about analog-to-digital shifts because compatibility gaps can strand devices, disrupt service, or create confusion that attackers may exploit through signal interference, spoofing, or supply-chain weaknesses in aging hardware. For operators, the key lesson is simple: inventory legacy receivers, test migration paths, and plan for mixed environments until every device has moved to the new standard.
