AI proxy service

An intermediary that fronts access to an upstream model and resells that access to others.

An AI proxy service is an intermediary layer that accepts requests from one user or customer and forwards them to an upstream model provider, then resells or reallocates that access. Instead of each customer holding a direct account or API key, the proxy manages authentication, billing, and usage on their behalf. In legitimate deployments, proxies can simplify integration, meter consumption, and hide provider complexity.

In cyber security, the term matters because the proxy can become a control point for abuse. Attackers may use synthetic accounts, stolen credits, or compromised billing relationships to obtain model access, then package that capacity for gray-market resale. Defenders should watch for unusual sign-up patterns, account rotation, quota misuse, and mismatches between identity, payment, and usage. Strong billing verification, organization-bound keys, and per-account telemetry make proxy-based abuse harder to scale.
