AI exposure

A measure of how closely a job’s tasks align with current AI capabilities.

AI exposure is a measure of how closely a job’s tasks align with current AI capabilities. A role is more exposed when its work involves patterns that generative AI can already handle well, such as text drafting, structured analysis, summarization, classification, and repetitive decision support.

In cyber security, AI exposure matters because it helps identify which workflows may be automated, accelerated, or disrupted by AI. Attackers can use high-exposure tasks to scale phishing, malware development support, or social engineering. Defenders use the same idea to decide where AI can assist with alert triage, log review, and threat hunting, and where human judgment must stay in control. High exposure does not mean a job will disappear, but it does signal that routine parts of the job are easier to machine-augment or automate, making oversight, verification, and exception handling more important.
